eCommerce sites will remain the biggest source of holiday shopping during Cyber Week 2021.

For the better part of a decade, Black Friday deals have been made available online. However, many consumers associated online shopping with Cyber Monday, and therefore took advantage of Black Friday deals in-person.

In 2020, those plans came to a halt as 57% of U.S. shoppers avoided in-person shopping due to health and safety concerns surrounding COVID-19.

Although we've made positive strides toward limiting the spread of Coronavirus, the majority of Syracuse consumers will choose to shop online throughout Cyber Week 2021.

The survey showed that 56% of Syracuse consumers plan to shop online for Black Friday. Additionally, 55% will shop on Cyber Monday.

Both of these figures are 2X that of Syracuse shoppers planning to visit brick-and-mortar locations on Black Friday (25%).

82% of the Syracuse population agrees that retail locations should be closed on Thanksgiving Day.

For the better part of the 2000's many big-box retailers like Walmart, Best Buy, and Target started their Black Friday deals on Thanksgiving. While their store hours were met with controversy, the amount of money made on Thanksgiving outweighed any backlash.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a majority of people planned to stay-at-home to avoid the large lines and crowds that usually accompany Black Friday. As a result, stores across the country remained closed Thanksgiving Day and night.

While we are in a better state today than we were last year, these stores have kept their policy to stay closed for Turkey Day.

The Syracuse community heavily supports the retailer's new holiday hours.

Our survey showed that 82% of Syracuse residents somewhat agree or strongly agree retail locations should be closed on Thanksgiving 2021. Only 6% of respondents strongly disagreed with stores remaining closed.

CNY has a stronger level of agreement than the rest of the U.S. as only 57% of Americans agree retail locations should be closed on the Thanksgiving holiday.
